How to Choose the Ideal Vanity for Your Bathroom

How to Choose the Ideal Vanity for Your Bathroom

Are you planning to add a new bathroom vanity to your bathroom? Then you’ll want to read this post before making your final decision. Here are three tips on how you can find the right bathroom vanity for your bathroom:

1. Materials – “Vanities are placed in environments that are humid, wet and busy,” says O’Neill. “The materials that make up your vanity of choice should be able to stand up to such an environment.” Wood veneers, laminates and thermofoil tend to work well in bathrooms. Wood should be properly sealed and lacquered — although Lawson does warn that lacquer isn’t indestructible.

“We do caution our clients that clear finishes are generally lacquer and that water will affect the finish if it is left standing on it,” he says. Designer Gina Adamson of Cab-I-Net recommends avoiding pressed MDF too, since it’s susceptible to water damage. Source: Houzz

2. Pick colors, textures and style that suit your bathroom – Your vanity must merge with your bathroom as one. For this it is essential that you keep in mind what exactly you have back home and you need to shop accordingly. There is no point picking something that looks great at the store but horribly out of place in your own bathroom. Pick colors that suit your existing bathroom walls as you cannot re-paint it just for your vanity’s sake. The texture is defined by the material you chose and here you have plenty of choice in wood, metal and host of other materials. At the end of the day make sure your vanity looks like it is an extension of your bathroom as a whole. Source: Freshome

3. Assess your storage needs – Inventory the important items you store in the existing vanity and what additional items you’d like in the new one, then add roughly 20% more space to cover all bases. How you prefer to access them can suggest the storage configuration: drawers, cabinets, shelving or a combination of all three.

To keep the size balanced with the room, know that storage can also be wall-mounted cabinets above the vanity, or towers that rest on the countertop (as shown in the above photo). These pieces can match the vanity for a cohesive look or become an opportunity to add stylish accents. Source: Mosby Building Arts
