Factors to Consider Before Buying a Toilet

It may come as a surprise to some but when buying a toilet but there are factors that need to considered before you make your final choice. Here are some of them:

Shape of the Toilet Seat
Most toilet seats are available in two shapes: elongated and round. Elongated seats are more comfortable, as their shape adds room and comfort, especially for adult. Round seats are about 2 inches (5.1 cm) shorter, which may work better in cramped bathrooms or with smaller individuals and young children. Source: wikiHow

Seat Height
The average seat height of the standard commode is roughly 15 inches from the floor to the top of the seat. Comfort height, sometimes referred to as ADA Compliant Height, toilets have become increasingly popular in the last several years, in part because the higher seat makes them easier for the elderly to use. They measure between 17 and 19 inches from the floor, a distance more comparable to standard chair height. While seat height is clearly a personal decision, notes Wade, having a comfort height toilet in the bathroom may be a selling point for a future buyer. Source: BobVila

Measure the Rough-In Before You Buy
The distance from the wall to the middle of the flange bolts that hold down the toilet will narrow your toilet choices. Twelve inches is standard, but 10-in. and 14-in. models are available. Unless you’re significantly remodeling, make installation easier by choosing a toilet with the same rough-in as your existing toilet. Make sure to account for the thickness of your baseboard.
